Biosolids Lawsuit: Los Angeles Sues Kern County over Human Waste at Green Acres

Los Angeles Sues to Force and Follow Habit of Dumping Sludge in Kern County, One of the Best Agricultural Sites of California

Big cities such as Los Angeles are dealing with some major waste issues. They do not know where to get rid of all the biosolids they are generating. Biosolids create business for trucking companies and some waste management entrepreneurs. So there are a lot of incentives to have a place like Green Acres to send all this output of waste. L.A. sludge has found a place at Green Acres where the corn stalks grow twice as tall as men. Many people have come to call Green Acres LA's outhouse. Tons of sludgy human waste are trucked to this area. It is spread as commercial grade fertilizer on thousands of Central Valley acres Los Angeles owns. But something happened this year. Kern County residents had enough of the sludge. They voted against the trucking of the treated human wasted to the area. As LA sprawls, more waste is generated. LA trucks about 65 million gallons of this sludge every year. The matter has to go to court to force Kern County to lift its ban on biosolids and those engaged in commerce.

Kern County said no to biosolids; Los Angeles said they still need to dump their waste on its Green Acres.

That is the essence of the conflict that is brewing between LA and Kern County. They are taking the case to court over human waste. Kern County voters do not want to smell this thing in their back yard. No matter how good biosolids are good to the earth in terms of adding nutrients and other needed growing substances to the grounds, many people, specially from the Kern County's group Keep Kern Clean do not want to hear anything like that. Conservationists may not agree with this either. Biosolids are strictly regulated. They help grow corn, wheat and alfalfa. Crops such as those are packaged as cattle feed. But do not cows produce milk that can be sold in stores for human consumption? Lavoissier said that nothing is lost. Everything is indeed recycled. So Orange counties, trucking companies, a farm and Los Angeles filed a lawsuit to keep sending the stuff down to Kern county. Residents are protesting their decision. They want to send the sludge packing. Another alternative would be to truck the payload to farther places such as Arizona.

It is interesting to see who is going to win. The question to ask is how major cities can produce and cohabit with so much waste. Can the biosolids be trucked or shipped elsewhere? The costs of fuel and transportation may be too high or punishing.

Are sufficient to quench their thirst. Any spectator or actor would like to be cast in such a role,
But only to the demigods amongst us such a privilege is granted.
Being able to get inside this hot burning fire with thick and round hoses that deliver the water to the right spot. Gee, what a nice shot, a nice throw to the right spot!
The fire had consumed all, yet beauty is there to be found again.
At the next rainfall, such little plants rise to kiss the first rays of sun!
I only wish I became one of them to enjoy such a renaissance!

According to a new National Retail Federation (NRF) survey the average consumer plans to spend about $100 on Mother's Day gifts with total purchases exceeding $10 billion. Some consumers also buy gifts for daughters, wives, and grandmothers on Mother's Day, so the $100 average is not all spent on Mom. Some of the most frequented stores on Mother's Day include florists, jewelers, and greeting card stores. Mother�s Day is the third most-popular holiday for sending greeting cards, behind Christmas and Valentine�s Day, according to the Greeting Card Association. According to the NRF survey, 59.6 percent of consumers will purchase at least one greeting card for Mother�s Day. Mother�s Day is the second biggest day after Christmas for purchasing flowers. About 15% percent plan to shop for their Mother�s Day gift online this year.
