The Emmy Stars Whose Dresses Inspire Prom & Quincenera Celebrants

Just like the rest of the Emmy viewers, I watch the show to see the best dressed and the best coifed. I will admit that the "Desperate Housewives" stole the show with their strapless dresses. Wait until you see what they are going to wear on Wisterial Lane this season.

From Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria to Nicollette Sheridan, these women reigned over th red carpet. The fashionistas were abuzz. Felicity donned a sleek strawberry bias-cut silk satin gown by Kevan Hall with Swaroski crystals on the waist and wide straps.

Teri Hatcher looked fabulous in a deep purple strapless gown by J. Mendel. Marcia Cross had an deep emerald taffeta gown on. It's designed by Elie Saab.

Nicollette Sheridan wore an icy pink strapless satin Armani gown. Eva Longoria was dressed in a coral crepe column designed by Angel Sanchez.

Portia de Rossi wore an orange chiffon gown by Ungaro. Jennifer Love Hewitt wore a full-skirted black strapless tea-length gown. Halle Berry had a purple, strapless dress tucked and wrapped around her body. Glen Close had on a black velvet Armani strapless gown.

Dresses that turned head in a dangerous way were the glittering nude slip dress and naked strapless dresses worn by Mischa Barton and Kyra Sedgwick.

In case you are wondering, the magnolia pins which almost everybody wore -men and women to show support for Katrina evacuees- were designed by Los Angeles jewelry designer Michelle Roy. The color orange was in.

For sure, the awards have become the staple of the fashion industry. Designers take huge bets on such nights. Actresses bet that fans will adore them more. Viewers are happy to get new knock-off ideas. Seriously, any of the above-named dresses and gowns can be made into a knock-off for homecoming queens, prom and quinceanera fashion-savvy young women.

Let's wait to see which one of those dresses and gowns is going to be the favorite at 2006 prom and Quinceanera ceremonies.

Thanks to Rosa Parks

Thanks for your quiet leadership

Thanks for refusing to give your seat

On the bus to a white man in Montgomery, Ala.,

Thanks for standing up by remaining seated

Thanks for saying enough is enough

Thanks for starting the movement that aroused

Our national conscience

Rosa Parks, thanks for standing up for human dignity

Thanks for giving hope to the hopeless of the land

A small woman led a quiet life and ended up inspiring others

Thank you, Rosa Parks! We now see what others could not then see

Thanks for your servant leadership

Thanks for giving up Oprah, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and others

Thanks for being the "mother of the modern-day civil rights movement."

Thanks for showing the injustice you were suffering to the rest of the nation

Thanks for the struggle for racial equality

In you, we now see that the wrongs can be redressed some day

Thanks for giving hope to all Americans

H&M is a reasonably priced, trendy fashion retailer that is based in Sweden. It has more than 1,130 stores in 22 countries. Why San Francisco? "Why not San Francisco?" may be the answer. After all, San Francisco has a lot of fashion-savvy, fashion-conscious shoppers who will understand the products of H&M. Hennes and Mauritz will open two stores in the San Francisco area. H&M opens two stores for the charm of it all. The store located at 150 Powell St, at O'Farrell Street will carry fashions and items for women, men and teenagers. The one at 150 Post St. will be exclusively for women's and teenagers' fashions and other accessories.

H&M is a major European brand that is making its foray in the West Coast. It is cautious about its image and the message it conveys. That's why the company moved to dismiss Kate Moss who was involved in the illegal drugs use. Since then, Kate has sought treatment and is back on the cat walk and fashion runways. The company reacted to the tabloid pictures showing the supermodel snorting cocaine in a London music studio. Keep in mind that image is everything in advertising.

As fast-fashion retailers, Zara and H&M have the ability to change its inventory in a record time in order to take advantage of the hottest, hippest, in vogue looks seen on famous people and European fashion runways. Once, these stores have made it to San Francisco, they may want to bring their products to other regional hot spots such as Santa Barbara, Orange County, San Rafael, Los Angeles, Fresno, Bakersfield and San Diego. The sky is the limit.
